The art of connection
in the wild

On March 11, 2011, we were living in Japan when the earthquake and tsunami struck — one of the most devastating disasters in the country's modern history. What followed was unlike anything we had ever witnessed. In the face of unimaginable loss, the Japanese people came together with a quiet, collective strength. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers carrying strangers. A nation rebuilding itself through the bonds between people.

That year, Japan named its kanji of the year: 絆 — Kizuna. Bond. Connection. The thread that holds people together when everything else falls away. It stayed with us.

We are a Japanese-American family, and Kizuna is our way of bringing that spirit here — to the hills of Ohio, and wherever we go next. Not an aesthetic. A living belief that the bonds between people, between cultures, between a guest and a place, are worth building something around.

01

The Genkan  玄関  The Entryway

Every cabin begins with a traditional Japanese entry — the genkan (玄関). Remove your shoes, step up, and leave the outside world behind. The transition is intentional.

02

The Ofuroba  お風呂場  The Bath

Each cabin features an imported Japanese ofuroba (お風呂場) with oidaki (追い炊き) functionality — the beloved Japanese ability to reheat your bath to the exact temperature you want, any time. A ritual, not just a bath.

03

Omotenashi  おもてなし  Wholehearted Hospitality

Selfless hospitality — every detail considered before you arrive, every comfort waiting without you having to ask. This is how we were raised to host, and it's what we bring to every stay.
